David R. Pernelli, MD

David R Pernelli, MD, founder of the Eye Institute of South Jersey, PC is a board certified Ophthalmologist. After receiving his undergraduate degree at Washington College in Washington, PA, Dr. Pernelli obtained his medical degree from Hahnemann University, in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship and residency at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado as an officer in the U.S. Army. While serving as Chief of the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Ft. Leonard Wood Community Hospital, in Missouri, Dr Pernelli was both tasked and privileged to serve his country as Chief of Ophthalmology at the 93rd Evacuation Hospital during Operation Desert Storm.

Following his military service Dr. Pernelli began private practice and in 1995 founded the Eye Institute of South Jersey, P.C. in Vineland, NJ where he specializes in refractive eye surgeries to include cataract refractive surgery and iLASIK as well as cosmetic eye surgeries and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. In addition to his private practice Dr. Pernelli is an Associate Surgeon at Will’s Eye Institute’s Cataract and Primary EyeCare Service, and the area’s only affiliated operating surgeon at Kremer Laser Eye Center.

Dr Pernelli has donated his spare time and energies as assistant coach for the Holly City Midget Football league, Little League assistant coach, Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge counselor and has served as co­president of the Austin Society at St. Augustine College Preparatory School. Terrance K. Heacox, Jr., OD

Terrance K Heacox, Jr, OD, optometric physician at the Eye Institute of South Jersey, PC completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Vincent College, in Latrobe, PA in 1998 where he received his Bachelors of Science degree with honors. He subsequently attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA and received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2002. In addition to his doctorate, Dr Heacox was awarded Clinical Excellence in both Primary and Pediatric Eye Care and membership in the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. After completing a multitude of prestigious internships, externships and teaching assistant positions, Dr. Heacox joined the Eye Institute of South Jersey, PC in 2002.

Dr Heacox specializes in the medical treatment and intervention of ocular diseases and is an expert in low vision rehabilitation restoring independence with vision enabling technology. He specializes in difficult to fit and specialty contact lens fittings for work, fashion, sports and leisure. Dr. Heacox welcomes all age groups and participates in most insurance companies.

Dr. Heacox is a member of the South Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, and the American Optometric Association.

Dr Heacox, the consummate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, enjoys golf, cooking, beer making and spending time with his young family.
