Permanent eyeliner and eyebrows are more than just a luxury or convenience. At the Eye Institute of South Jersey, PC, Dr. David R. Pernelli, MD, applies permanent pigment to enhance or create eyeliner or brows for those desiring cosmetic improvement; he also treats those who have experienced the ravages of chemotherapy, age and the effects of alopecia. Loss of lashes or brows due to illness or injury can add insult to injury for those who are not fortunate enough to regrow hair and for those who experience visual difficulties or find it physically challenging to apply makeup due to afflictions like Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis or as part of the aging process. Diminished eyebrows and lashes can greatly affect their perception of themselves.
How Permanent Eyeliner and Eyebrows Work
During your consultation Dr. Pernelli will assess your appearance and medical history to ensure that this will be a safe treatment option for you and a color palette will be chosen. A small pigment test will be applied to an inconspicuous area to ensure tolerance for the pigment. At the time of the procedure a numbing agent will be applied to the affected area prior to the application of the pigment. Subdermal pigmentation will then be applied to the base of either upper or lower lashes (or both) to mimic the application of eyeliner or applied in a feathered pattern to the brow area to give the appearance of natural brows.
What to Expect with Permanent Eyeliner and Eyebrow
Depending on your aesthetic goals, one treatment session may provide the results you desire. If greater color is desired or both eyeliner and eyebrows are desired, additional sessions may be required. The entire treatment process is performed by Dr. Pernelli in our South Jersey office.
During your consultation you will be informed about any potential side effects of the pigment and or the procedure. Temporary bruising or swelling may occur after the procedure.
